A few hours ahead of schedule, the Haiku Project has released – the announcement & the download page. And, coinciding with the release of Alpha 1, snazzy new Haiku website has been launched.

It’s amazing to think that it was only a few years ago that simply getting Tracker & Deskbar running on Haiku was viewed as a huge accomplishment – and now a full-featured, stable release looks to be right around the corner. Everyone involved in getting Haiku to this stage deserves a huge congratulations.

I concur! I give props to the core team for continuing to push ahead. We all will benefit in the years to come from their selfless work.

Thanks! :-)

Sweet! I was on the Ubuntu forum and indeed a lot of people were discussing having tried the Alpha in a thread. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive.

Perhaps more surprising and more encouraging still is that these were all Linux guys (I myself used Linux after BeOS), and practically no one was flaming it as a waste of time with no hope.

I AltOS community is excited to see something new. As much as I respect Linux for what it is, I think a lot of us who seek a better Desktop OS see Linux for what it is not, and what it doesn't look like it will every really be.
