Probably not, but I didn’t bother to actually read the article – I think it has something to do with reptiles. And remember, as a wise man once said: BeDoper will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no BeDoper.
Over on Studio-33, Mr. 0033 made a very interesting find last week – a screenshot of the VLC video player running under Haiku. The image was posted to the Haiku mailinglist by Axel D??rfler – or possibly by one of the helper clones he uses to maintain his insane pace of development. The message mentions that he had to disable overlay and MMX support to get VLC to work, but it’s still a very nice milestone that helps illustrate how far Haiku has come.
BePodder developer Giuseppe Gargaro sent in an EMail today to let us know about the second beta of their PodCast client for ZETA. BePodder is made available as shareware and its developers have generously pledged to donate 20% of each sale to the Haiku Project. It sounds as if quite a lot of work has gone into the latest release, Beta 2 – from the announcement on Il Tuo Sistema:

The webmaster of TurkBUG.org, the Turkish BeOS Usergroup, sent in an EMail letting us know that the site is now back after a six month hiatus. It sounds like there are a lot of cool new and planned features, so head on over and check it out if you read Turkish – and even if you don’t, it’s worth it just for the very slick “Bootscreen” splashpage. First reported by Studio-33, there’s a new Weekly Haiku update online, as of Feb. 24. In the last week, the Haiku developers have been hard at work on MIME support, tweaks to threading. and the ability to build Haiku images directly to a specified partition. Rudolf Cornelissen has also made some interesting discoveries that could lead to simultaneous hardware 3D and video overlay in Haiku.
The BeZilla project posted a Firefox update to BeBits on Sunday, built from the current Firefox “development trunk.” The most significant change mentioned in the version details is that tab close buttons have been moved to the tabs themselves – it only works with the default theme presently, no tab close buttons are shown using the HaikuFox theme. The new build also includes a patch to fix NetPositive bookmark support. Zenebona, music player and library program, was updated on Sunday as well. The new version, RC9, includes read / write support for BFS attributes, changes the GUI, and the ability to change sorting by clicking on column headers.
Studio-33 has spotted some intersting work being done on the im_client by Slaad, im_kit contributor and all-around foutain of cool application ideas (QueryWatcher, Snoopy, etc). First off, he’s added a customisable toolbar – if a program is capable of opening People files, a link to it can be placed in ~/config/settings/im_kit/im_client/toolbar and its icon will show up in the im_client’s toolbar. Clicking on the toolbar icon will run that application on the current person; on Slaad’s blog, he shows a screenshot with a Snoopy icon added to the toolbar. The second change he’s made is to replace the “User is typing…” notification with an icon (screenshot). And if that weren’t enough, he’s also been hacking away at the info_popper lately. Great work, Slaad, I can’t wait to try out the modifcations.
