Archive for the ‘News’ Category Also from Vasper, I recently received an EMail with a status report on YAB. I’ve been a bit slow on the draw reporting on YAB, it’s a BASIC interpreter and IDE developed by Team Maui – YAB also contains bindings to the BeOS API, allowing developers to write graphical BeOS apps in a BASIC language. Not content to simply rest on a cool idea, Team Maui have been hard at work pushing towards a 1.0 release. Read on for the latest info, straight from the horse’s mouth – or in this case, straight from the Vasper’s EMail client.
A screenshot, purportedly of the upcoming 1.2 version of ZETA, was sent in recently by Mr. X. No version number is displayed in the screenshot, but a kernel build date of March 7 is visible. The screenshot also shows off what appears to be a new preferences panel for info_popper (called the InfoServer in the screenshot), offering fairly thorough control of info_popper’s display options.
Mr. Vasper, of BeOS Max fame, wrote in recently to let us know about some new forums that have been added to BeOSMax.org. They have sub-forums covering just about every BeOS-related topic imaginable – including ZETA and Haiku-specific forums, a Development forum, a Media forum, and more. Great to see another place for online discussion of BeOS / ZETA / Haiku, especially with the BeGroovy forums still offline. Vasper also mentioned that they host the YAB forums at yab.beosmax.org
Over on the Italian BeOS news site Il Tuo Sistema, there is a recent post about a new DVD manager/library application for ZETA and BeOS. Descriptively called “DVD Manager,” there is also some information in Engilsh on the developer’s website – along with a screenshot. From the description, DVD Manager looks like a cross between an equivalent of CDDB for DVDs and a catalogue library for your DVDs – it downloads information on your movies, and keeps a database of your DVDs. A downloadable demo is available for ZETA, with an R5 version promised in the near future; the full version costs 15 Euros, a good deal if you have a huge DVD collection and want more sophisticated than a spreadsheet for keeping track of it.
Tako “0033” Lansbergen of Studio-33 has spotted a BeOS/ZETA build of the Mozilla-based calendar/contact application “Sunbird.” He also took the build of Sunbird for a spin and has posted some first impressions along with a couple of screenshots. While a native solution using attributes would almost certainly be more “elegant,” Sunbird is useful to have at the very least because it gives people access to a program they may already use on another platform.
The fine folks over at HaikuNews and ZetaJournal have spotted a post on the DeBug forms announcing the dates and location for the upcoming BeGeistert 016. Since the post was made, the BeGeistert site has been updated with the official announcement. Their FAQ page contains the important when/where/how much details – namely: May 20th & 21st, in the Youth Hostel Berlin-Wannsee, Badeweg 1, a cost of 22 Euro to attend, and 21 Euro per night for overnight accomodations. Note: I had mistakenly listed the accomodation price as 21,000 Euro – the price is listed in their FAQ using the EU currency format (21,00) and my brain reflexively followed the North American “comma after every third number” rule. Fixed now.
I’m a little late noticing this one, but the Weekly Haiku update for March 6th has been posted. Axel has been his usual busy, prolific self – this time, he’s done a boatload of work on cursor handling. The app_server saw some significant contributions from “mmlr,” who has made some improvements to R5 compatibility and font rendering – at the same time, impressive. And “Korli” has submitted many “build fixes” for mixer & multi-audio media-addons, as well as codec plugins. So head over and check out the full post, there are many more details and lots of stuff that would just show off my lack of programming knowledge if I tried to summarize it.
