On Biffuz blog there is a nice post to read about 4 GB memory barrier and the nuts and bolts of supporting 4GB+ memory for OSes and especially Haiku.

Good news is that Haiku boots fine with that much RAM even it doesn’t take more than 33228 MB into consideration. Read why here.

Two days ago (Hmm, still late on this one) Ic0 posted a news telling us Haiku now have a brilliant shinny new graphical boot loader a-la-BeOS ! Nice job ! This is the result of the work of Artur Wyszynski (aljen) and Stephan Asmuss (stippi). Here is how it looks like:

More information on the Ic0 post. From Ultrabill of BeOSFrance we also learn that this boot screen is available since build 24449 of the code (http://www.haiku-files.org/)

Buenos dias.

Some days ago I saw an URL on one Haiku mailing-list: Haiku-OS Colombia. Glad to know about a new Haiku related web site, welcome aboard! Information is provided in Spanish for those who can read it.

There I found another interesting piece of information (and no, I don’t speak Spanish ;-). There is an effort ongoing to translate Haiku-OS in Spanish. A SourceForge project has been launched for this and can be found here: http://haiku-es.sourceforge.net/.

For all you Spanish speaking Haiku supporters there is a dedicated mailing list you can subscribe to here http://www.freelists.org/list/haiku-es. And last but not least, here is a site from Argentina: http://www.haiku-os.com.ar/ (still in Spanish). To complete your South America Haiku Links Collection(tm), here is BUG-Brazil http://www.bug-br.org.br/ a long time known BeOS / Haiku blog (AFAIK this one is not in Spanish, please correct me…)

Jabber for Haiku
Manette.be - March 18th, 2008

Ok, I’m late on this one, shame on me. Also, looking at the posts I wrote today it seems to me like I do the thing time-reversed today :-)

Anyway, as seen almost everywhere, Frank Paul Silye did manage to get the ownership of the Jabber for BeOS source code. With the help of Andrea Anzani they make it work on the Haiku platform.  Wanna give a try ? Head over OSdrawer.net !

A more detailed information can be found here and  The Nice Picture(tm) is to be found here below :-)

Mavin over BlueTooth
Manette.be - March 18th, 2008

Here is an update to our recent news over the BlueTooth stack developed by Oliver for Haiku.  On his blog there is a new post showing a mobile phone successfully discovering an Haiku OS over BlueTooth.

After having saw some movement on the CVS list about BlueTooth commits, that is now a great achievement which has been reached. Step by step Oliver brings us more closely to a usable BT stack under Haiku. Great work !

BFS in the news
Manette.be - March 18th, 2008

OSnews writer and BeOS friendly Thom Holwerda informed us about an ArsTechnica’s article over file systems. The article From BFS to ZFS: past, present, and future of file systems is of course an interesting reading.

On page seven, sadly, and wrongly ;-), under a section named Dead ends and thoroughfares, there is a piece of information over BeOS and BeFS. Have a good read.

“We are very pleased to announce that, for the second straight year, Haiku has been accepted as a mentor organization for the Google Summer of Code”

Last year edition was a great success (read here, here, here and here). We hope that, with the experience acquired in 2007, this millesime will be still more productive ! Recall that, for the participation to GSoC ’07, Haiku received the collaboration of height student during several months and the donation of 4000$.

If you want to know more about this new edition, there is a post on haiku-os.org you can read. You can also find there a list of ideas for GSoC ’08 as well as an How-To page for explaining to students the nuts and bolts.

Don’t forget to spread the word and help to find Warriors Coders for the Haiku project :-)
