After having no further luck recovering the files from my damaged BeOS partition (details here and here), I decided to setup a fresh install of R5 Pro – I haven’t given up entirely, just didn’t want to go completely insane as a result of being stuck in Windows.

In the course of attempting to get the files back, I tried just about everything I could think of – and came across a few screenshot-worthy “scenes” in the process. Read on if you’ve ever wondered what the R5 installer looks like in ZETA, or if you enjoy creative ways to pluralize words.

During one of my attempts at recovering the files, I had setup a temporary install of ZETA (I’d picked up the disc a while back but never got around to using it), and I ended up running the R5 installation from inside ZETA. Which leads to the first odd screenshot – an image showing the R5 installer running in ZETA:

Since it was a completely fresh R5 install, I needed to apply the updates to it – screenshot number two shows the updater running inside ZETA and the amusing error message that appears (although it does at demonstrate that Be Inc. had enough forethought to include version detection):

Since I also had the ZETA 1.5 update disc, I decided to take that for a spin. The ZETA update gave me a warning too, but it was a little less… coherent than the warning offered by the R5 updater, as you can see in the third screenshot:

And the fourth screenshot was taken after the ZETA 1.5 update was installed, showing the ZETA login screen, along with an interesting warning:

A warning about Caps Lock, I can understand. But Num Lock? Maybe if a password somehow made use of the directional keys…
