<p>Back in the time Oliver worked on a the creation of a <strong>VoIP application</strong> for yT&#8217;s Zeta as his final studies project. The application was named <strong>Whisper </strong>and was based on the <a href="http://www.bebits.com/app/4183"><strong>BeNet </strong>source code</a>.</p>
<p>Today, Oliver seems to have obtained from Bernd Korz the rights to publish his thesis documentation. He hopes it will ease the re-creation of such an application from BeNet source code.</p>
<p>Whisper was using a proprietary point-to-point protocol but what if it could be extended to other standards as well&#8230;</p>

<li><strong><a href="http://be-hold.blogspot.com/">Rudolf Cornelissen</a> is <a href="http://cia.vc/stats/author/rudolfc">committing code again</a></strong>, this time directly into the Haiku repository. His work seems related to nVidia cards at the moment.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.haikuware.com/20080602220/latest/june-1st-tya-michael-lotz">Haikuware 1st June Thank You Award</a> is attributed to Michael mmlr Lotz</strong>. Congrats !</li>
<li><strong>Haikuware launched two new bounties</strong>: one related to <strong><a href="http://www.haikuware.com/bounties/documentation-bounties">documentation</a></strong>, the other for <strong><a href="http://www.haikuware.com/bounties/flash-port-bounty">bringing flash</a></strong> abilities to the Haiku.</li>
<li>since rev25750 <strong>Haiku successfully boots on the eeePC</strong>. Although Haiku runs for the moment in &#8220;reduced&#8221; graphic mode (640&#215;480 stretched in 800&#215;480) and lacks drivers for network WiFi and sound this is a great achievement ! (more info <a href="http://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/1671">here</a>, <a href="http://www.haiku-os.it/node/292">qua</a> &amp; <a href="http://www.beosfrance.com/articles.php?cat=article&amp;id=551">ici</a>)</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://darkwyrm-haiku.blogspot.com/">DarkWyrm</a></strong> tells us he is working on a revision of the <strong>Haiku R2 Desktop document</strong> which will be posted as soon as finished.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://dev.zebuntu.com/">zeVenOS beta 5</a> is out</strong>.</li>
<li><strong>GSOC student <a title="Read Dustin Howett's latest blog entries." href="http://www.haiku-os.org/blog/dustin_howett">Dustin Howett</a></strong> posted a status update about adding support for <strong><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Precision_Event_Timer">High Precision Event Timers (HPET)</a></strong> in Haiku.</li>
<li>Nice post on the mailing list: <strong><a href="http://www.freelists.org/archives/openbeos/06-2008/msg00026.html"><em>How to install Haiku to USB flash drive from Windows</em></a></strong>.</li>
<li>The <span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Haiku Code Drive 2008</strong></span><strong> </strong>has raised <strong>more than $7500</strong> ! This is a great encouragement received from the Community ! Haiku inc. added the missing money to reach the $10&#8242;000 mark <a href="http://www.haiku-os.org/news/2008-05-30/haiku_code_drive_2008_to_sponsor_four_students">allowing four more students to work on Haiku during the Summer holidays</a> (with the <a href="http://code.google.com/soc/2008/haiku/about.html">5 GSOC students</a> it makes 9, one more than in 2008).<br />

<li>If you feel like you are a beta tester, there is a <a href="http://community.livejournal.com/bezilla/280615.html">pre release of Firefox and Thunderbird 2.0.0.15pre</a> for use with Haiku (ore R5 BONE).</li>
<li>Firefox as well as thunderbird uses what&#8217;s called the NetScape Portable Runtime (NSRP). This modules provides an OS independent API for Threads, Threads synchronization, I/O, Network addresses, Time, Memory management and Linking. There is a <a href="http://community.livejournal.com/bezilla/281276.html">post on BeZilla covering the tentative to rewrite that library optimized for Haiku</a>. Also discussed is the question to drop support for BeOS and Zeta.</li>
<li>Firefox will not be the only browser for Haiku. Indeed, François <em>mmu_man</em> Revol is porting <a href="http://www.netsurf-browser.org/">NetSurf</a> on to Haiku. The port is already working in Zeta as you can see on <a href="http://www.haiku-os.it/immagini/news/netsurf.png">this screenshot</a>.</li>

<p>Also Biffuz posted a <a href="http://www.biffuz.it/news.php?id=89">clarification article on his blog</a> detailing the artihmetic and memory barrier technical problems related to 32 vs 64 bits choice. He concludes by giving his answer to the question: should Haiku go 64 bits ?</p>
